Rec (11-13 Yr Old) Referee FAQ

Recreational Referee course: This course is designed for 11-13 year-old kids who are interested in becoming a soccer referee. You MUST be 11 years of age or older when you go to register for the course. This certification only allows a Recreational Referee to do small-sided (9v9 or lower) D4 (recreational) games. This certification is good for 2 years and comes with a referee ‘kit’ (shirt, shorts, and socks).

What is the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program?

The TSRRP was designed for 11-13 year-olds who want to become a referee but are not old enough to register for the Grassroots Referee course. 

How old do I have to be in order to register for the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program?
You must be 11 years old or older at the time of registration.

How much will the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program cost?
The cost for the 2023/2024 soccer year is currently $110. The Tennessee State Soccer Association controls the cost for the program so this may change in the future.

How can I sign-up to become a Tennessee State Recreational Referee?

To register for the 11-13 year old course, you must create an account first. 
  1. Go to https://tn.omgtsys.com/ and select "New Member Registration"
  2. Step 1 - When asked for Registration Type, select "Non-USSF-Licensed Small Sided Game Official"
  3. Step 2 - select "Hendersonville" as the clinic location
  4. Step 3 -Invitation Code - RecRef15
  5. Step 4 - pay for the clinic (uniform included in fee)
What will I have to do to complete the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program?
After you register for the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program, you will have to complete 21 online video courses and a field session.  Videos are learn at your own pace.  The field session (clinic) is around 2 hours.

Will I have to purchase a uniform and a badge (patch)?
No. Part of the cost of the program is to pay for your referee kit (uniform). It will include an orange and white TN badge, gold/yellow short-sleeve referee shirt, black referee shorts, and black referee socks from Capelli.

How long is the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program good for?
The TSRRP certification is good for 2 years.

Will I have to recertify after a year?
Yes. There will be no cost for a TSRRP referee.

What age groups will I be able to officiate once I complete the course?
Once you complete the Tennessee State Recreational Referee Program, you will be able to officiate recreational (D4), small-sided games (9v9 or lower). Both teams must be from the same recreational organization (HSC).  Age groups will be U7 and U8.

Are there any games that I will not be able to officiate once I am a TSRRP certified?
Yes. You will not be able to officiate full-sided games (11v11), competitive level games (D3 or above), or teams from different recreational organizations, i.e. WCSA v YMCA.

How do I get assigned games?
HSC uses a referee assignor to assign all of our games.   TN Soccer is moving to a new assigning system which will be explained at the in-person clinic.  Once the new assigning system is ready, you will be able to login and select the time frame you are available to referee.  You can block out times you are not available.
